JN Times is now JN Tempo, and version 2.0.0 is the first release under the new name. Everything your organisation already relies on is still here: timesheets, clock in and out, expenses and approvals. This release adds the tools agencies asked for most.

Updated on 6 October 2026. Version 2.0.0 now also includes purchase order tracking, contractor billing preparation, a dashboard for every role, invitations with self-onboarding, additional administrators, filters and custom reports. This article describes everything in 2.0.0, and lists what isn't available yet at the end. Screens show a sample agency's data.

What stays the same

  • Same account, same data. Sign in with the email address and password you already use. Your organisation, contractors, placements, timesheets and expenses are where you left them.
  • Your subscription carries on as it is. Nothing about an existing subscription changes with this release, and prices don't change. The Billing page shows the plan, price and renewal date Stripe holds for your organisation.
  • Same roles. Admins run the organisation and billing, managers review and approve, and contractors record their time and expenses.

Purchase order tracking

Admins can record each client purchase order, link the placements it covers and see how much of it approved work has used.

How to use it: open Purchase orders under Finance, choose New purchase order, and enter the PO number, client, currency, authorised value and dates. Then link the placements it covers. You can attach the PO as a PDF; JN Tempo can suggest the number, value and dates from the PDF's text, and you check and confirm them before anything is saved.

  • Committed is the value of approved timesheets on the linked placements, at the rate recorded when each timesheet was approved. Remaining is the authorised value minus committed. Expenses aren't included.
  • A timesheet counts if its work period starts within the PO's dates and it was approved in the PO's currency. A placement can only be covered by one PO for any date, so nothing is counted twice.
  • Approved timesheets that don't count are listed with the reason, such as dates outside the PO or no rate recorded.
  • Warnings appear when usage reaches the threshold you set, goes over the authorised value, or the end date is within 30 days or has passed.
  • PDFs up to 4 MB are stored privately. Opening one creates a download link that works for 60 seconds.

For each purchase order, an admin chooses whether each manager has no access, view-only access or can update it. Managers see the full totals, but only their own contractors' placements in the breakdown, and they can't change their own access. Only admins can cancel a purchase order.

Contractor billing preparation

JN Tempo can prepare what each contractor is owed for a period, and remind your admins before payment is due. It prepares billing information and reminders; it doesn't transfer money. Your organisation pays contractors outside JN Tempo, in the same way as before.

How to use it: open Contractor billing under Finance and choose Generate billing. Pick the work period and review the preview. Nothing is saved until you confirm.

  • A billing run includes approved timesheets whose work period starts in the dates you chose and that aren't already in a current run. Draft, submitted and rejected timesheets are never included; they're listed separately with the reason.
  • Each line shows the contractor, placement, client, work dates, approved hours, who approved it and when, the rate, total and PO number. Amounts use the rate recorded when the timesheet was approved, and currencies are totalled separately.
  • Work in a current run can't be billed again. To change a run, adjust it: JN Tempo saves a new version and keeps the old one. Cancelling a run releases its work.
  • Payment status is whatever an admin records, with their name. JN Tempo doesn't check it with a bank.

On the Schedules tab, set when each work period closes for billing (the cutoff) and when payment is due, in your timezone. Set one default for your organisation, then override it for a contractor or a placement where needed. If reminders are on, your active admins get one email per billing period, with counts and totals only. Read the guide to contractor billing schedules for worked examples.

Each billing run can be exported to Excel or PDF, built from the run's saved lines. There is also a Xero bill import (CSV) file laid out for Xero's bill import template. You upload it to Xero yourself after adding your account code, tax rate and supplier names on the Suppliers & export tab. Try the file in Xero's demo company before relying on it.

A dashboard for every role

Each role has its own dashboard, built on the server from the records that person is allowed to see.

  • Admins: organisation figures, approvals waiting, missing timesheets, purchase order balances and billing due.
  • Managers: the same figures for their assigned contractors, and the purchase orders shared with them.
  • Contractors: their own hours, submissions, returned items, clock corrections and what to do next.

Every figure says what it counts and which dates it covers, and you can select it to open the records behind it. At the top, a short summary states the key figures for the period, calculated by JN Tempo, with links to the source records. Choose Customise to reorder, resize, hide or show widgets; your layout is saved to your account.

Invitations, self-onboarding and more administrators

Admins can invite contractors, managers and other administrators by email. The person opens the link, sets their own password and adds their details in a few short steps. The role, organisation, assignments and placement come from the invitation, and the person can't change them.

Administrators have full access, including subscription billing, and cost nothing extra. Your organisation always keeps at least one active administrator. Each invitation shows whether the email provider accepted the message and any delivery reports it sends back; links work once and expire.

Filters, totals, saved views, reports and exports

The Timesheets & expenses page filters by contractor, manager, entity, client, placement, status, dates, hours, category, amount, currency and receipt. Totals cover every matching record you can access, amounts in different currencies are totalled separately, and you can save the filters you use most.

Export timesheet lists, individual timesheets, and the contractor and manager directories as Excel workbooks or PDFs. Before a file is generated, JN Tempo shows exactly what it will contain, and what you can export follows your role. Admins can also build a custom report in five steps and export it to Excel or PDF. Read the guide to preparing exports for which file to use when.

Also in 2.0.0

  • Placement details for admins. Record a work arrangement and worksite, plus engagement type, payment arrangement and IR35 status, visible only to admins and kept in a history. JN Tempo records what you enter; it doesn't decide anyone's status.
  • A guided tour for every role. New users see it when they first sign in, and anyone can restart it from Help. It only points things out and never changes your records.
  • Help where you need it. Question-mark buttons beside features open a short explanation that uses the same guidance as Help & Support.
  • Clock corrections. Clock times are recorded by the server. A contractor who forgets to clock out requests a correction with a reason, and their manager approves or rejects it. Every change is kept.
  • Sign-up and sign-in. Sign-up has three steps and verifies the email address first. Everyone can sign in with an email address or a username, and new people choose their own password from a single-use link.
  • A clearer layout. A navy and orange design with light and dark themes, a sidebar grouped by task that collapses on a desktop, and contractor screens that work well on a phone.
  • Room to grow. Every plan includes 20 contractors, and packs of 20 more cost £25 a month each. For new organisations the plan is £79 a month or £799 a year; see pricing.

Not available yet

  • Online sign-up for new organisations isn't open yet. Email [email protected] to ask about access.
  • Online payments, including adding contractor packs and changing plans from the Billing page, aren't open yet. Email [email protected] if you need more capacity.
  • AI wording for the dashboard summary is built but isn't switched on yet. The summary you see is calculated directly from your records.
  • Storing contractor bank details is built but isn't switched on yet. When it is, details will be encrypted, shown masked and visible only to admins you authorise.
  • A direct Xero connection isn't available. The Xero bill import is a file you upload yourself, and nothing is sent to Xero.
  • Payments aren't made or confirmed by JN Tempo, and it doesn't add VAT or other taxes, convert currencies or decide IR35 status.

Where to find help

  • In the app, select the question-mark icon at the top of any page to open Help & Support, or to restart the tour.
  • Email [email protected] and the JN Horizon team will get back to you.
